Unleash The Green

I believe that marijuana should be fully legalized nationwide. Has the United States not learned from the Prohibition back in 1919? During which people responded by committing even more crimes to traffic and distribute the illegal substance? Sound familiar? In comparison, it took the United States 13 years to wise up and end the prohibition of alcohol, while the prohibition of marijuana has been going on for much longer, while also netting the same response! There should not be so much trouble over a drug that is a lot safer when compared to some of the other substances out there. According to 2012 F.B.I. totals, there was a huge marginal difference between arrests made over marijuana possession than there were arrests made over possession of heroin, cocaine, and other drugs far worse than marijuana. Something is not adding up here. Agreed? The worst fear is how it affects our children which is a very reasonable concern. However, once legalized there should and most likely will be laws put in place to protect our children from obtaining marijuana just like there are laws preventing them from purchasing and possessing alcohol, cigarettes, and prescription drugs. The process of regulating the sale of marijuana may be tedious, but it is not impossible and can easily be done if people would stop condemning the production and use of marijuana as a major crime. All in all, when used responsibly, marijuana is a much safer recreational substance than many others such as alcohol. The United States needs to wise up again and put an end to another ridiculous prohibition. All Americans nationwide should be able to legally light one up and experience the happy and medicinal healing effects of marijuana. One Love.

I chose to critique James' blog called Unleash The Green because I share a similar view. I agree with the fact that it is a lot less dangerous than other drugs including alcohol or even legal pharmaceuticals. He states that that there was a huge marginal difference between arrests concerning marijuana and other drugs like heroin, and cocaine but did not state which one had more arrests. Some more numbers would be great maybe even how many deaths from marijuana have happened compared to other drugs. I like that he mentions there will have to be a process in regulating sales like done with tobacco and alcohol but it can be done. Overall I think he is right though its ridiculous for The United States to not legalize it when they have already seen what happen with the prohibition of alcohol.

Finding that I had the most in common with James' blog mentioning the legalization of marijuana, I firmly agree with his stand point. Having many friends and family members that live in states where marijuana is legal or decriminalized, I hear the side where it is so enjoyable to not deal with a crime so tedious of having in it possession of them. Dropping a whopping 10% from the last few years, marijuana is still a focus on negativity when it comes to arrests. James made a great point when saying there are WAY worse drugs out there that in actuality harms the lives of the individual and others that needs to be focused on more. Alcohol, which is legal, has an endless amount of negative side effects to the mind, body and soul but is shrugged upon when one is known as a drinker. I see alcohol as a drug equal to heroin and marijuana as a healer. The public needs to focus more on the great aspects and positive outcomes from cannabis rather than only view it as a negative drug.
